“In most of the world, girls and women are doing better than boys and men in both physical and mental health indicators. Even when statistics regarding female depression, eating disorders, and violence-against-females such as rape and genital mutilation are included, males are doing worse. Perhaps most surprising to people is the study’s wide reach: the health and wellness gender gap favoring females exists in all 72 industrialized countries, including countries like China or Oman that we have tended to believe are ‘still patriarchal,’ and thus should be harder on females than males."
While what you do in your home, raising YOUR boys, or teaching/coaching/mentoring male kiddos is super important and should be your first priority, we also need more people willing to speak out about the systematic neglect of our boys' and their needs and issues for over 30 years - advocating to put our boys on the radar screen.
"Those calling attention to issues negatively impacting male children know if mothers were to collectively advocate for their sons, things would change, and quickly." - Terry Brennan is a co-founder of Leading Women for Shared Parenting.
